The gauntlet has been thrown down. The challenge has been made. Are you man (or woman) enough to step up to the battle?
Thursday December 3, 2009, the Minnesota Aquarium Society will have its first annual "Chili Bowl Show Challenge". The rules are simple. Prepare your best batch of chili, pour chili into suitable container (may or may not have flat sides), bring vessel containing chili to meeting, put entry into area designated for "Chili Bowl Show Challenge", fill out special entry form and obtain entry designator sign from Bowl Show chair, place said sign next to your entry. Voting for the best bowl of chili will take place during the pot luck portion of the meeting. Do you bring a lip burning spicy chili or something a bit milder with incredible flavor. The MAS members will cast their votes and choose the winner. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place chilies. If your chili needs any accompaniments (cheese, onions, sour cream) it is your responsibility to bring them along. Of course really good chili just needs a spoon, a bowl, and a willing stomach. In the words of my uncle, "Let the battle begin"!
Calling all Artists and Photographers!!!
2010 T-shirt Contest
Once again, we're calling for interested artists or photographers to create something wonderful for the next MAS T-shirt. This years contest is only for the main design which generally goes on the back of the shirt. There's no limit to the number of entries you can submit. Every entry will be admired and appreciated!!
Main Design; Subject: Fish, plants, rockery, driftwood etc..., Style: Realistic or abstract Color of Screens: Up to six colors.
Mediums: We have expanded the medium which may be used to include photos. If you choose traditional artist materials, it's best to use black technical pens on white paper. It is perfectly acceptable to use your computer although we ask that the artwork submitted be your own work. Chalk, colored pencils, crayons or water colors are harder to scan and translate into a beautiful shirt. Size: Up to 12" x 12" maximum, Color of Shirt: Artist decides.
Logo Design The Board determined that for this year's logo, we will again be using Sue Fries stylized angelfish. This will be our sixth (and possibly final) year using it as we hoped to use an identifiable logo for at least five years or longer. Color of Screen: Only one, but not necessarily black. Size: Up to 4" x 5" maximum
Deadline: Artwork or photos should be submitted by the December 3rd 2009 regular meeting. Voting will occur during the Dec. 3rd 2009 meeting. All current MAS members present are eligible to vote.
Orders; Pre-production orders will be taken during the January 7th meeting, the January Auction and also the February 4th 2010 meeting. As in past years, very few extra T-shirts will be ordered and NO extra polos, sweatshirts, pocketed or long sleeved tees. Please help us meet our minimum by pre-ordering!! Shirts will be delivered at the March 4th and April 8th 2010 meetings, just in time for the Spring Show, April 9th-11th.

Disclosure: MAS will receive unlimited, but not exclusive, use of winning designs. Designs cannot be licensed to others by MAS to use for other purposes. Contest is only open to Minnesota Aquarium Society members and all submissions must be original artwork or photos from the member.
